Mrs Elizabeth Pearson and Mr Alistair MacLeod, our founding members.
Airdrie Academy has a very long tradition of performing musicals and light opera style shows in Sir John Wilson Town Hall, Airdrie Arts Centre and in the school hall. It was not until two young teachers in the late sixties really got the pupils into the art form in a big way, these were Mrs. Elizabeth Pearson and Mr Alistair Macleod. When the seventies arrived they found it was very hard for former pupils to continue with their pursuits in musicals as they had done at school so plans were made in 1973 for Airdrie Academy Former Pupil Operatic Society to be formed. Heather Stephens still has the original minutes from these meetings as she was the secretary at the time of the clubs start. These productions were to be held in Airdrie's recently built secondary school Caldervale High in the theatre Alistair Macleod helped design.
An inaugural concert was organised for 18th - 20th April 1974 in Airdrie Arts Centre to raise some capital for the first main production on 19th - 23rd November 1974. This tradition lasted until the club's 2009 presentation of Boogie Nights, ending 35 years performing in Caldervale High School.
