Sad News

All members of MLO were saddened to hear of the death of Mr. Bill Stubbs our past NODA area rep, here photographed with our current rep Mr. David Black. Our thoughts go to Kath, Jimmy, Karen and the rest of the family.

Congratulations to Mr. Gilbert Cox

Congratulations to Gilbert Cox our ex-lord lieutenant of Lanarkshire and friend of MLO for his recent award from Her Majesty the Queen.

Gilbert Cox has been Lord Lieutenant for the last ten years having previously being Deputy Lieutenant since 1989 and twice recognised in the Queen’s Honours list.

In 1996 he was awarded an MBE for his services to the community. Last year he was awarded the prestigious title of Commander of the Victorian Order (CVO), bestowed on the personal recommendation of Her Majesty for Service to the Royal Household.

Mr Cox, who was born in Airdrie in 1935, is married to Marjory with the couple having two sons Alan & Ian and a daughter Jill. Alan is a former MLO member singing in the bass section. He was educated at Airdrie Academy before advancing to study at Glasgow Royal Technical College and then Strathclyde University.

He began working with the National Coal Board as a sales and marketing officer before going on to become a sales director for David A. McPhail and Sons, sales manager for Monteith Holding and Scottish director of Associated Perforators and Weavers, a post he held until retiring in 1997.
